I’ve never feel so good in life.
Just one more month until I turn twenty-six. Quarter life has been such a marvelous year. It started off bad. I struggled for the first nine months
I’ve figured out who I’m; what I want to do and where I want to be for the rest of my life. As I mentioned earlier, I found my identity as a Chinese.
As of what I want to do, I have to say I still love architecture but I don’t think I want to be an architect.
(to be con't)

I watched the opening ceremony for the 29th Olympic on Friday night over the television. I was speechless as it hit my heart so deep.
The first Olympic ever held in China. It meant a lot for us, Chinese.
When they play the Chinese National Anthem, I couldn't hold my tears. I never thought I could be so touched while hearing the Anthem but I did. As I figured out my identity as a Chinese after twenty-five years. Yet, I still don't know how to sing the Anthem. I believe, one day, I'll remember the lyrics.

The Olympic and Beyond
It's almost August and the Beijing Olympic is coming up.
I still remember I spent a lot of time watching the Sydney Olympic eight years ago. That was when I first got to the States and school hasn't started yet. Then it was four years ago the Greece Olympic, I remember it was a touching moment watching the ending ceremony. It seems like yesterday.
Time flies. I can't believe it's been eight years. And for the first time in my life, I've such a strong feeling that I'm Chinese. To be honest, being born and grew up in the Colonial era of Hong Kong, holding a British passport and being study aboard and work in the United States for many years; I don't have a sense of belonging of Hong Kong, not to mention China.
But lately I've been reading a lot of article about Beijing, its architecture and city development. I'm thrilled to find out what the Olympic has bought to China, and yet I'm sad about the changes and disappearing of our tradition. It started to make me feel like I should do something for my country. I want to be a part of it.
It's a bit late, but not too late yet; after twenty five years, I figured out the answer. Now I just need to work towards it.

A Lot to Learn
Anyhow, this week I learnt there're still I lot I need to learn, whether it's architecture, construction or life.
A new guy started at work, he's just fresh out of school. He reminded me how fresh, how engentic, how passionate I was back in the days. I think I need to work hard on building up my confidence, but I always think other do a better job than I do. Is it because I'm a perfectionist? I only see my mistakes and how imperfect I'm. I shouldn't let this be my burden.
I still have a long way to go, a lot to learn.

Whatever Happens, Happens for a Reason
My emotion is still up and down. I'm glad that I'm struggling for it because I care. If I don't care, I won't be so frustrating. From this period of time, I learnt that I love architecture even more than I thought. I realized I love architecture more than I thought. I always say I don't care or I don't want to care anymore, but deep in my heart I know how much I care about it. Even I don't want to care, I just can't help myself care too much.
I believe this's an awesome experience, it makes me tougher than ever and has more energy to move forward.
Life is amazing.

Out of the Blue
I was in Venice earlier today to go to do some field measurements. When I leave the job site, I drove around the neighborhood and saw a hand full of houses in construction. Out of the blue this feeling hit me hard. I recalled a lot happened during the past year while I was working on this project during construction. I got to know the client, I experience the meaning to of architecture, which isn't to change the world but to make a diffference, either to someone's life or in a larger aspect, to the community and society.
Despite the constant disappointment hit me lately, plus my confusion about architecture, career goal, life and work. I realize I still love architecture so much. It's in me and it'll always be a part of me.
Now I make this clear and I'm relief.

Where Am I Going?
My college friend Charlene is moving back to the Bay Area this month. So I met with her this afternoon to have a tea.
We spent couple hours in a bakery/ cafe, taking about the old days (well, should be "nights"). Of course, our conversation was mostly about architecture. It's so awesome that I could share my struggles and stress I am facing. I love my architecture friends because only they understand.
I should plan another trip to San Francisco. May be around September/ October. So I can also visit the Contemporary Jewish Museum by Daniel Libeskind and Renzo Piano's California Academy of Science, which will both be open by then.
Once again, I have one less friend in the Southland. It'll be my turn next year. But where am I going?

Be Myself
Yesterday was the day for our office picture taking, we were divided into groups, each group kind of compose an interesting shot. I dressed up in the 50's style (that's our theme) and with heels. My foot hurts afterwards. So today I wear back my favorite outfit/ style, which is oversize tunic, hoodie, jeans and converse. That's the real me.
It's good to just be myself.
Feels like Summer in Los Angeles once again. I am looking forward the real Summer comes. Will be my last Summer here.

Yes, I do Remember!
I am still in the struggle.
Last night I saw the sentence "Do you still remember your aspiration when you first studied architecture?" I dropped my tears.
I am sure this is a learning process and experience.
Stand still.

I See the Rainbow!
Weather is just gorgeous since a week and a half ago. How grateful to be living in Southern California!
I think I'll miss it the most!
I went back to the office to work on my portfolio this afternoon, on my way back home, I walked across a park and stared at the sky. Out of a suddenly, I finally realized for the past few months or so, I'd been focusing too much in the future. I forgot to live and enjoy what I've at the moment.
There's rainbow after the rain. That's what I believe. I've a lot to get done in the next nine months, but I shouldn't worry too much.

Drained Out
It's been a while I haven't update this blog.
Work is quite busy. Not exactly, but just a lot going on. I apologize I mostly write about architecture (or work), but it's hard to control myself. I said long ago and it's still true that "architecture is my life".
Architecture changed my life, shaped who I am today.
Back to work related, Rob went back to East Coast the Friday before. I got lots of emails, phone calls, detailing with different folks back and forth, get ready for the client meeting, etc. Gosh, I was dead tired. It's like drained out. I meant, I love construction administration, but at the same time, I am constantly overwhelmed by it.
Luckily, after recharging over the weekend, I gain my energy back. Just one more day until Rob comes back.
I need a break too!
Beside this, I slowly starting to work on my portfolio. Currently doing a cartoon layout to figure out what to include and what not. It's kicking. I just need to find time to work on it after work and over the weekend.

"Y2K8" Resolutions
Escape from California! I am in the process of planning a short trip to Seattle/ Portland late Spring/ early Summer and a Christmas vacation to Chicago/ Milwaukee (may be Minneapolis too).
Work harder and always remember the reason that I want to be an architect.
I'll be applying for graduate school at the end of the year. The schools on my list so far are GSD (MArch2, MAUD, MDesS), MIT (SMArchS) and Princeton (MArch2). These are my top choices. The back up schools are UMich (MUD), Columbia (MSAUD) and Berkeley (MArch or MUD). Before the deadline, I've to prepare a kick-ass portfolio, which I should start to work on it soon. Also, I need to take GRE and TOEFL; write a statement of purpose for each school and program.
But most important and minimum, I just want to be healthy and live happily.
Look forward!

"Y2K7" in Review
It's almost the end of the year. Just two more days! So it's time to stop and look back what I did the past year.
"Y2K7" was quite a simple year. Nothing big and surprise but it's composed of small moments and memories.
I was working on construction administration most of the time this year. I definitely learnt a lot about construction methods and managing a project during construction. It might not be fun as schemetic design or design development, but it's like working behind the stage, each decision and detail could affect the final result. That's what interest me the most. Like I always believe, "I don't need to be famous, I just need to do my part and contribute to the society in a different aspect".
Over the course of this year, I gained a lot more loads and responsibilties.I became more comfortable and proficient dealing with people outside my team.
First time since I chose architecture, the thought of leaving the architecture profession appears in mind. It truly flightened me. I went throught a week of struggle, cried, came to my project manager for help, calmed down, crawl in my bed and wrote down my thoughts, etc.
My health wasn't quite healthy towards the end of the year. Around November, I fainted and became unconscious while I was at a job site one day. My co-workers called the ambulance and sent me to the hospital. Then the last few days, I caught a cold and still haven't recovered yet.
One thing I learnt in "Y2K7" was to let go. When you get older, you trend to see and understand life differently. I am hard to deal with but that's who I am! I just want to live my own life and do whatever I want.

Closing Up
I am stuck in Los Angeles for this holiday season. Not bad, yet not good either. Must escape next year, I have a plan in mind.
Chicago, I am coming!
But I got sick right after the holiday. My throat became sore and torturing me to death. I almost lost my voice. Then I started to cough my lung off. Also my stuffed and running nose made me feel even worse.
I slept a lot. Feel good. Trying to spend the last few days of the year to rest the fullest. Then a fresh start.

Constant Change
"The only thing constant in life is change"
It's never so true. I can't believe my babies come back to me. I am surprised! I never ever imagine that.
In a very short time, I'll be working on the Las Vegas prefab project again. I am a bit nervous, it's going to be quite a challenge for me. Can I handle that?

What's Wrong
I am so lost.
I ponder my long time love affair with architecture. No doubt I truly love architecture, no one would disagree that. Work is treating me well, that's nothing I could complain. But I don't seem to know what do I want. Is that the recent responsibilities? I don't think so, I think it's under my control yet I am not completely satisfy.

Give Thanks
Since I was out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday and busy playing. I didn't have a quiet time to sit down and think about what I need to give thanks for. So let me try to clear up my mind a bit, rewind the tape to a year ago and start from there.
First of all, of course my job. I am thankful that I've a fantastic job that I love and intelligent co-workers. They taught me so much for the past three plus years, treated me like their little sister. This is more than I could ask for. There's nothing compare to you’re able to do what you love/ enjoy as a career.
Secondly, the city/ area I am living in, Los Angeles/ Southern California. For sure I love San Francisco/ Northern California a lot more and always want to move up there! But here is my home away from home; I left a lot of footprints and put a lot in my pockets for the past seven plus years. I only have a year and a half left, seems far yet I am sure time flies in the blink of an eye.
That's about it for the time being.
